Marketing with DistinXion

Project Type

Nonprofit Marketing

Date

August 2018 to July 2019

Location

Bloomington, IN

DistinXion is a youth outreach program ran by the Zeller family throughout Indiana. The Zellers are the biggest name in basketball in Indiana's history, as Cody, Tyler, and Luke played at Indiana, North Carolina, and Notre Dame respectively, and all went on to play professionally.

DistinXion is of course rooted in the development of skills for youth athletes in baseball, cheerleading, and basketball. However, our mission was to develop today's youth into tomorrow's leaders, so on top of athletic development we worked with youth athletes on character, leadership, and volunteerism.

Being a nonprofit, our budget was very modest but luckily the Zeller family did not hesitate to provide funds for travel, lodging, and day-to-day operations. Our board included former Athletic Directors from NCAA universities which provided me an incredible network as I broke deeper into the sport industry.

Utilizing my own marketing campaigns, DistinXion saw it's largest camp numbers ever during my year there. We visited 40 different schools over the summer of 2019 with at least 50 participants at each of them. A few of my marketing campaigns included:
- Print materials being distributed to schools for students to take home
- Email distributions to donors, alumni (former interns, members, etc.), school administrators, parents, etc. using Mailchimp
- Graphic Design using all software available in Adobe Creative Suite
- Social media campaigns that always included CTAs and other forms of interactivity to drive our engagement
- NCAA March Madness bracket that any DistinXion member could participate in with a giveaway for the winner
- Updating a majority of the website using SquareSpace for a smoother, more interactive user experience
